21 Organic Bras and Underwear Brands To Check Out

[ad_1]

Organic bras and underwear can be hard to find. Here are 21 brands that make organic bras and underwear worth exploring.

We know bras and underwear are staples in most women’s wardrobes. We also know that bras and underwear can be so uncomfortable…but did you also know that they can be harmful to people and our planet? And that the fashion industry has a terrible environmental impact?

That’s why we love organic bras and underwear, and why we want to share sustainable underwear brands for organic basics! Let’s dive into why organic matters, the problems with conventional cotton, and alternatives.

Why does organic matter?

You might wonder how organic materials could matter when it comes to your undergarments. Turns out, it matters a great deal.

For instance, growing the natural fibers that become our fabric with organic farming is hugely important to our Earth. Organic means that pesticides that have toxic chemicals will not be used on the plants, which means those chemicals will not enter the soil or waterways. And, there will be no harmful chemicals in the plants that then become the material that sits on our skin in our most intimate places.

Organic doesn’t just mean chemical-free. It means better care for the environment, fewer toxins for our bodies, and also ethical and sustainable practices for production and the workers who make the garments, from farming to production as well.

What’s wrong with conventional cotton?

Conventional cotton not only uses so much water, but conventional cotton is grown with less sustainable practices.

Cotton is grown in already water-stressed areas, so organic cotton is grown with more support to the land and the farmers who practice farming.

Certifications that are helpful to look for:

Two certifications to look for when you are shopping for organic bras and underwear are GOTS and Fairtrade.

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and it certifies that the textile is organically and sustainably made from farming to production.

All GOTS certified products contain a minimum of 70% organic fibers, and all chemicals used such as dyes must meet a specific environmental and toxicological criteria. GOTS certification also allows consumers to choose truly organic materials and products from green supply chains.

Fairtrade supports farmers and their workers to have more control over their business and life.

Fairtrade calls for better practice when it comes to trade, which means better prices and decent working conditions for farmers and workers in developing countries who have been marginalized in the past. They support fair wages for workers and sustainable materials for the entire supply chain.

Good materials for underwear:

When you think about your underwear drawer, you might think about its “breathability.” That’s why organic fabric made from natural fibers such as cotton, hemp, micro-modal, merino,  or bamboo is your best bet!

These organic fabrics are much better for your skin than synthetic materials or synthetic fabric because they let your skin and most intimate areas breathe, while also being soft, non-toxic, and planet-friendly.
