An Interview with Jessica Baum

[ad_1]

Jessica Baum, founder of The Relationship Institute of Palm Beach and its sister company Be Self-full®, is a certified substance abuse specialist with a focus in chemical abuse, co-dependency, and anxiety. She is also an Imago therapist, and she uses the Imago approach to treat family systems and relationship issues.

After struggling with depression and anxiety, and noticing that there wasn’t a lot of information out there explaining what is happening in your body when you experience mental health concerns, she decided to write a book explaining anxiety, anxious attachment, and how to work toward a more secure state.

In her book, Anxiously Attached: Becoming More Secure in Life and Love, Jessica discusses through a personal lens the multiple layers of attachment theory, including how we develop certain attachment styles, how these styles are triggered in our daily lives, and how we can learn to navigate these in a healthy and fulfilling way – with ourselves and with our partners.

During my interview with Jessica, we discussed a variety of different topics that show up in her book, including:

  • Her experience with attachment
  • My experience with attachment
  • How and why attachment styles form
  • The Anxious-Avoidant Dance
  • Codependency, co-regulation, and co-dysregulation
  • The Little Me that we all have inside of ourselves
  • Healing – in ourselves and in our relationships
  • The importance of self-love and self-compassion
  • Sitting with our anxious feelings
  • The role of boundaries in our lives and relationships
  • So much more!

Healing doesn’t happen overnight, and it isn’t something that you can snap your fingers and achieve. Healing from anxious attachment, and avoidant attachment, and coming to a more secure place in your life and relationships, means sitting with a lot of difficult or challenging feelings while also recognizing those feelings and where they are coming from.

Jessica’s book has a lot of valuable and helpful information to accompany on your journey through understanding your attachment style and how to work with it instead of against it in your life.
